Lean Six Sigma is a management methodology focused on improving business processes. Lean Six Sigma has several different levels, namely Black Belt, Green Belt, and Yellow Belt. Here are the general definitions and focus areas of these levels:

 

Yellow Belt:

Definition:

Yellow Belts are team members of Green and Black Belt projects and serve as the team leader of their own project.

Skills:

  • They can solve 85% of business problems using Problem Solving Tools and Basic Statistical tools.
  • They typically learn these tools within 2-4 days of training.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Generating basic-level solutions to enhance the effectiveness of processes and operations.
  • Managing the project team and ensuring coordination.
  • Ensuring the project is completed on time and within budget.

 

Green Belt:

Definition:

Green Belts are project leaders who solve problems using problem-solving tools and advanced statistical tools.

Skills:

  • They typically learn these tools with 812 days of training.
  • They can solve complex business problems that require optimization beyond 85%, usually within their own departments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Developing datafocused strategies to improve processes and increase efficiency.
  • Managing teams and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Providing leadership for improving processes within the organization.

 

Black Belt:

Definition:

Black Belts are full-time improvement project leaders who are proficient in both Green Belt tools and Statistical tools for product and process development.

Skills:

  • They typically learn these tools with 2025 days of training.
  • They continuously update their knowledge to meet the needs of a good Black Belt organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Managing product and process development projects using advanced statistical tools.
  • Training and mentoring Green Belts.
  • Generating innovative solutions to increase the organization‘s competitiveness.

Each of these levels is designed to make business processes more effective, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and improve overall quality. Individuals can achieve specific levels by receiving these trainings and lead process improvement initiatives in their organizations.
